MIMITO SOFT TOY

4 Easy to Make, Soft Toys

LEVEL: EASY

This pattern and tutorial allow you to create a very quick and easy soft toy in 4 different version including a pig, a koala, a bear and a rabbit.

Finished measurement of the toy is roughly 20/24cms tall depending on the ears.

***

The MIMITO SOFT TOY pattern is perfect to use up small pieces of fabric scraps.
With its four different designs, this pattern is an essential piece that you can make over and over again.
The tutorial below will show you how to make a seamless soft toy in four different ways by
simply switching up the ears and nose pattern pieces.

RECOMMENDED FABRICS

From lightweight to heavy-weight linen, hemp, flannelette, corduroy, velvet, denim, any soft, natural woven and non stretch fabrics with a good drape. Avoid fabrics that are too thick and too stiff for easy manipulation and avoid fabrics that are too thin and see-through for a nicer finish.

If your fabric is lightweight and thin, I recommend using interfacing.
This pattern is perfect to use a contrasting fabric for the ears and nose.

If you are not sure which fabric to use, look up the hashtag #softtoymimito on Instagram for
inspiration.

FABRIC USAGE

This project is great to use any small remnant pieces of fabrics you may have in your stash.

Please note: Make sure to cut the fabric on the grainline so that the toy stay nicely in shape.

NOTIONS

- Fabric
- Matching threads
- Stuffing (polyester stuffing, cotton balls, fabric scraps...)
- Small 7cm embroidery hoops (if you have but not essential)

PDF SEWING PATTERN

This pattern contains three files. A Projector file, a Print At Home file and a Copy Shop file.

The PROJECTOR file can be opened using Adobe Acrobat. Ensure your projector is calibrated and measure the check square to ensure the pattern is at the correct scale. If using dark-coloured fabric, change the colour setting of the projector file so the pattern and text are easier to see.
The Copy Shop file can be printed at any printing store onto a large piece of paper. It needs to be printed true to size at scale 100%. This specific file fit onto an A3 paper or US equivalent. Remember to measure the check square at the store before you go home to make sure your pattern has been printed correctly.

The Print At Home file can be printed at home with any standard printer at scale 100%. It
contains 3 pages that do not need assembling. This file suits both A4 and US Letter printers.

Please note: Feel free to change the scale of the pattern when printing if you want to make a bigger or smaller toy.

SEAM ALLOWANCES

In this tutorial, we are using a 0.7 cm or 1/4 inch seam allowance and is already included on all pattern pieces.

VIDEO TUTORIAL

You will find a step by step video tutorial on my YouTube channel Atelier MIMITO alongside a breakdown of the construction steps in the video description.

Care Instructions

Caring for your fabrics is essential to maintain their appearance and longevity. Here are some essential fabric care tips to make your clothing last longer and look great.

First and foremost, always check the care label on your garments. While most fabrics benefit from similar care, certain items like wool may have specific instructions. For general care, wash your fabrics in cool or cold water. Hot water can degrade fibers and cause colors to fade.

Avoid using chlorine bleach or fabric softeners, as these can damage the fabric over time. Instead, choose a phosphate-free detergent. These gentle detergents clean effectively without harming your textiles.

When it comes to drying your clothes, it's best to tumble dry on a low setting. This helps prevent shrinking and unnecessary wear and tear. For the best results, dry similar colors together to avoid color transfer. If you want to maximize the longevity of your fabrics, consider line-drying your clothes. This method reduces the risk of damage from the dryer’s heat and can also save energy.

Ironing your fabrics? Always check the appropriate heat settings based on the type of fabric you are working with. Utilizing the right heat can help you avoid burns and preserve the integrity of your garments.

If you have any delicate items, laundering them in a mesh bag can provide extra protection during the wash cycle. Always be mindful of embellishments and finishes when caring for your fabrics.

Ultimately, proper fabric care ensures that your clothes continue to look fresh and new. By following these easy tips, you can enjoy your favorite garments for years to come.
