    Fabric Requirements:

The They & Them Shorts will work in a wide variety of woven fabrications. The construction consists of a single layer of fabric on the front and back legs with French seams and a double layer of fabric at the waistband and hem to add some extra weight as well as clean finishes. The lightweight fusible interfacing will reinforce the waistband for extra support while sewing and wearing. Light to mid-weight woven fabrics will work well. A stabler fabric will be more beginner friendly. Use a contrasting ribbon or fabric for the drawstring ties to draw attention to the sophisticated bound buttonholes detail at the waist.

    Fit Recommendation:

The They & Them Shorts are designed for a gender inclusive fit which means the pattern has been drafted for a TRULY RELAXED FIT. (All caps for emphasis in case you do not believe me!). If you are between sizes, size down. Most of the ease falls in the back due to the elastic only running through the back waistband. Depending on how you want your shorts to fit, the front waistband can lie flat or be tied higher up and cinched by the ties. The shorts feature a very comfortable DROP crotch when worn at the hip, meaning the crotch may feel quite long if you are not used to this design feature. You may choose to shorten the rise at the shorten/lengthen line on the front and back pattern pieces. Alternatively, pull the shorts higher up and voila - you have high rise shorts! Because of where the shorts are designed to fall, choose your size based on your hip measurements for a relaxed, hip-hugging short.

Find the size that corresponds closest to your personal measurements in the size chart below. Patterns are designed for a 5’8” (172cm) tall person. The following measurements are needed to determine your size:

WAIST | The smallest part of your torso, directly underneath your rib cage and above your hip bones

HIGH HIP | Starting 3” below your waistline, around the circumference of your hips

LOW HIP | The widest part of your hips, patterns drafted for 8” below the waistline

    Care Instructions

Caring for your fabrics is essential to maintain their appearance and longevity. Here are some essential fabric care tips to make your clothing last longer and look great.

First and foremost, always check the care label on your garments. While most fabrics benefit from similar care, certain items like wool may have specific instructions. For general care, wash your fabrics in cool or cold water. Hot water can degrade fibers and cause colors to fade.

Avoid using chlorine bleach or fabric softeners, as these can damage the fabric over time. Instead, choose a phosphate-free detergent. These gentle detergents clean effectively without harming your textiles.

When it comes to drying your clothes, it's best to tumble dry on a low setting. This helps prevent shrinking and unnecessary wear and tear. For the best results, dry similar colors together to avoid color transfer. If you want to maximize the longevity of your fabrics, consider line-drying your clothes. This method reduces the risk of damage from the dryer’s heat and can also save energy.

Ironing your fabrics? Always check the appropriate heat settings based on the type of fabric you are working with. Utilizing the right heat can help you avoid burns and preserve the integrity of your garments.

If you have any delicate items, laundering them in a mesh bag can provide extra protection during the wash cycle. Always be mindful of embellishments and finishes when caring for your fabrics.

Ultimately, proper fabric care ensures that your clothes continue to look fresh and new. By following these easy tips, you can enjoy your favorite garments for years to come.
