Maker Monday featuring ThreadEthic!

Hiya friends! Welcome to the first instalment of Maker Monday here on the Simplifi Fabric blog! As a supplier of eco and organic fabrics, Simplifi is lucky to have some of the best, eco-conscious customers. We feel honoured to be the choice of many small businesses when it comes to the fabrics they choose for their products, and we wanted to highlight some of the amazing makers out there with a feature on the blog.

This week we are featuring ThreadEthic! A boutique out of Hague, Saskatchewan, featuring sustainable fashion for your little ones. ThreadEthic not only uses eco-friendly fabrics, but have made a commitment to using upcycled materials as well. We love that! Here's what Debbi from ThreadEthic has to say about her business:

What do you make?

I make classic children's clothing and winter wear for all ages.

Who is your customer?

My customers are eco-conscious & style savvy. They are looking for sustainable, handmade and stylish options for their families that will last!

How did you get started?

I learned to sew three years ago as an outlet for managing depression & anxiety. It was love at first stitch and all I wanted to do was sew.  I had owned an interior decorating business for a few years but had closed it down when I became pregnant with my second child. My sister in law and i had been talking about some business ideas and it kind of just blossomed from there. I spent months researching sustainable fabrics and trying to decide what I wanted to make! I opened my shop on Etsy in the summer of 2017 and have been loving the journey!

Where are you located?

I work out of my home in Hague, Saskatchewan with my shop on Etsy

Why are eco certified and organic fabrics important to you?

As I began researching eco fabrics I saw a glimpse of the heartbreaking damage the fashion industry does to people and our planet. I couldn't stand the thought of something I make causing harm to someone else. So I made the choice to only use sustainable fabrics that have been milled in an ethical way. The certification gives me the confidence to know that the fabrics are actually ethically produced. This past year I have introduced clothing made with upcycled fabrics which helps to reduce some of the textile waste as well!

How did you find Simplifi?

Google 😂  where would we be without it!!

What is your favourite kind of fabric to use for your business and why?

Organic cotton just makes me happy, it is so soft and easy to work with, I love it!

Great idea to showcase Makers here! It’s great to learn about other Eco conscious people and their story, where they’re located and what they’re making. Big plus for your website.
Terrific and hip baby clothes EcoThread. Love them! Wonderful Etsy shop too.
