Did you ever want to start sewing, but weren't sure where to start? So many options, colors and patterns to choose from.
For the rainy season we thought we'd share a beginner pattern and fabric suggestions to get you started!
We chose the Grand'Ourse for its ease of use and because it is so versatile! You can make cardigans, hoodies, jackets and raincoats with several variances.
With this pattern they make it really easy and you need the same amount of fabric for both the outside and lining! We love this beautiful Line Leaf Matte Laminate fabric for this raincoat pattern. It is water repellent and flexible, which makes it great for playful children in the rain or damp weather. Looking for a different type of fabric for this project? Try our Merchant & Mills Oil Skin Fabrics.
To line it and keep your little warm we recommend a fleece, this can also be made with a polar fleece, faux fur, jersey or poplin fabric. To keep the look neutral you can go with a USA light weight fleece or to get that Fall feeling we love pairing the yellow laminate fabric with Bamboo Organic Cotton Stretch Fleece in pumpkin.
Depending on which style of raincoat you go with you can require from 2-6 buttons, we love these speckled brick buttons. How cute would these fall colors look coming together?
When sewing with the Matte Laminated fabrics it is best to use polyester thread on your machine. We chose #417 thread!
And lastly deciding if the design you chose requires a binding edge, like our ribbing.
And of course have fun! Get creative, mix and match colors and styles! And of course share your final result with us, we love to see what our Makers Make!
