6 Questions with ... Nicole V. from Mama Kloth

1. What is your business name and how did you come up with the name?

I have two Etsy Shops.  I started the first one "Kloth" last Fall and opened up my second shop in March "Mama Kloth".  I chose the name Kloth as I mostly wanted to be selling fabric and wanted a simple clean name that people could remember.  Than Mama Kloth was born using a play on words with mama cloth being the items I make and also being a sister store to Kloth.  Thats alot of Kloth in a sentence, phew.

2. What do you sew?

I sew Reusable Menstrual Pads and accessories as well as Bamboo Hot Water Bottle Covers.

3. What inspired you to start your own home-based business? Do you have any employess?

Eight years ago my good friend and I started a company called Westcoast baby.  We specialized in Bamboo Layette for Newborns.  As my kids got older I longed for something new so  I sold my share of the business to my partner.  I tried to take some time off but to no avail the ideas came pouring in.  Im currently trying to keep my business super simple so that I can close up shop whenever I feel like, so I'm a one man show.  I plan to keep it like this until my kids are older.

4. What is your favorite part about sewing?

I find it very relaxing and how it makes my mind go quiet.  I also LOVE to watch movies.  So most of the time I set up shop in my studio with my sewing machine and Netflix.  I mostly  watch the same ones over and over again.....Pride and Prejudice happens to be one of my favourites.

5. What is your favorite sewing tip/trick you wish you had of known ages ago?!

Just try.  Sometimes you have to just go at.  Yes you will make mistakes but you will get it the next time.  Practice indeed does make perfect, well.....close to it.

6. What is your favorite SIMPLIFI textile and why?

Im currently loving the Chevron PUL.  Im making my Pad wrappers out of it and the response has been fantastic.  Of course I love all your natural , organic fabrics as well.
